Nurse teaching to educate the patient and caregiver on stages of hypertension and the numbers to be remembered.
- Normal blood pressure – systolic between 90 and 120 / and diastolic between 60 and 80
- Elevated blood pressure – systolic between 120 and 129 and diastolic less than 80
- Stage 1 hypertension – systolic between 130 – 139 and/or diastolic between 80 and 89
- Stage 2 hypertension – systolic more than 140 and/or diastolic more than 90
- Malignant hypertension – systolic more than 180 and/or diastolic more than 120.
- Malignant hypertension is a serious crisis state and is an emergency.
