Patient/caregiver was educated on types of hypertension as follows:
- Hypertension can be called primary or idiopathic, when there is no defined reason for elevated numbers.
- Hypertension in these patients is mainly due to interplay of multiple risk factors, such as, obesity, family history, heart unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, poor physical exercise, and stress.
- Significant portion of hypertensive patients fall into the category of primary hypertension.
- Hypertension can be secondary, when there is a defined identifiable cause for elevated numbers, such as, compromised renal function, valvular disorders, coronary artery disease, and diabetes.
- Signs and symptoms of hypertension remain the same, whether the condition is primary or secondary in origin.
