Patient/caregiver was educated on types of hypertension as follows:

  1. Hypertension can be called primary or idiopathic, when there is no defined reason for elevated numbers.
  2. Hypertension in these patients is mainly due to interplay of multiple risk factors, such as, obesity, family history, heart unhealthy diet, sedentary lifestyle, poor physical exercise, and stress.
  3. Significant portion of hypertensive patients fall into the category of primary hypertension.
  4. Hypertension can be secondary, when there is a defined identifiable cause for elevated numbers, such as, compromised renal function, valvular disorders, coronary artery disease, and diabetes.
  5. Signs and symptoms of hypertension remain the same, whether the condition is primary or secondary in origin.
