Patient/caregiver was educated on pathophysiology of hypertension as follows:

  1. Blood Pressure is defined as the force exerted by the blood on the walls of the blood vessels.
  2. The ideal numbers on this reading is 120/80.
  3. On the upper number, anything more than 120 and on the lower number, anything more than 80 is considered hypertensive.
  4. Hypertension can be called primary or idiopathic, when there is no defined reason for elevated numbers. Significant portion of hypertensive patients fall into this category.
  5. Hypertension can be secondary, when there is a defined identifiable cause for elevated numbers.
