Patient/caregiver was educated on pathophysiology of hypertension as follows:
- Blood Pressure is defined as the force exerted by the blood on the walls of the blood vessels.
- The ideal numbers on this reading is 120/80.
- On the upper number, anything more than 120 and on the lower number, anything more than 80 is considered hypertensive.
- Hypertension can be called primary or idiopathic, when there is no defined reason for elevated numbers. Significant portion of hypertensive patients fall into this category.
- Hypertension can be secondary, when there is a defined identifiable cause for elevated numbers.
