Patient/caregiver was instructed regarding double voiding as follows:

  1. Double voiding is a pattern of bladder training to help individuals with difficulty emptying the bladder completely.
  2. Obese individuals, women with history of multiple pregnancies, and individuals with history of lifting heavy weights can have poor pelvic muscle strength. Poor tone of pelvic muscles can result in incomplete emptying of bladder, urinary dribbling, incontinence, and frequent urge to urinate.
  3. Double voiding helps to address these urinary problems by helping to improve emptying of bladder
  4. Double voiding technique allows an individual some extra time for the act of voiding and empty the bladder completely.
  5. With improved emptying of the bladder and thereby, reducing the back-up of urine in the bladder, double voiding helps prevent development of urinary tract infections.
