Patient/caregiver was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Pyridoxine as follows:
- Pyridoxine can interact with a number of other medications, which can compromise the therapeutic benefits of the supplement and that of other medications as well. If you are being newly started on Pyridoxine, discuss with your physician regarding all other medications you are currently taking and their safety with Pyridoxine. Also, if you have been taking Pyridoxine for long, discuss with your physician regarding your history of Pyridoxine intake, when you are being started on any new medication.
- If you are prescribed Pyridoxine for relief of neuropathy, report to your physician regarding any worsening signs and symptoms of neuropathy in the extremities, such as, compromised balance and coordination, altered sensation, tingling and numbness, reduced sensitivity to touch or pain, and/or burning sensation. Also, notify your physician regarding episodes of seizures you encounter, if any. The symptoms of neuropathy due to deficiency of Pyridoxine could not be completely reversed with the supplement.
- Do not take vitamin B with alcohol, as alcohol can consume vitamin B for its metabolism, thus resulting in deficiency of the supplement. In individuals with deficiency of the vitamin, this can compromise the therapeutic benefit of supplement intake.
