Patient was educated on signs and symptoms of deep vein thrombosis as follows:

  1. The signs and symptoms patients can present with, due to deep vein thrombosis, can differ with the site of the blood clot deposition and the body parts involved.
  2. Swelling of limb: The blood clots formed in the BLE, especially if the clots are large can occlude the vein and obstruct the blood return in these veins towards the heart. Consequently, this can result in diffuse swelling of the leg below the level of the clot, due to the accumulation of blood. Also, the swelling in the involved limb can be strikingly different, with the involved limb clearly swollen in comparison to the limb free of any DVT.
  3. Inflammation of the vein: Blocking of the venous blood by the clot can result in localized inflammation of the vein. This can lead to pain and pinpoint tenderness, usually at the level of calf muscle in lower extremity, with some redness and elevation of temperature at the site of the clot deposition along the limb.
