Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Naprosyn as follows:
- Naprosyn is significantly excreted in the urine. Individuals with compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Naprosyn should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals. Any symptoms of renal injury and altered kidney function, such as, altered levels of consciousness and reduced urine formation, should be closely watched for and reported to the physician. Discuss with your physician regarding your history of compromised renal function, if any, and your safety with using Naprosyn.
- Try practicing alternative pain management measures, such as, deep breathing and relaxation and visual imagery, to be able to cut down on pain medication and avoid the long-term side effects of pain medications.
- Naprosyn can sometimes result in ringing in the ears and hearing loss, especially, when taken with Lasix. Avoid taking this medication with Lasix to prevent this drug interaction.
- Do not share your pain pills with any family and friends.
- Do not abuse Naprosyn by continuing to take the medication, even after the pain resolved. Naprosyn carries significant risk for compromising renal function leading to renal failure.
