Patient was educated on contraindications for using Actoplus Met as follows:
- Actoplus Met is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted by the kidneys. Part of it is even excreted unchanged in the urine. If liver and kidney function are deficient, the metabolism and excretion of this medication can suffer. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in toxicity and severe side effects. So, Actoplus Met should be used with caution in individuals with hepatic and renal dysfunction. Actoplus Met is also known to cause deterioration in liver function and consequently, liver disease.
- Actoplus Met significantly increases the risk for bladder cancer and is contraindicated in individuals with history of bladder cancer.
- Actoplus Met is also known to increase the risk for heart failure significantly and so, is contraindicated in individuals with history of heart disease and compromised cardiac function.
