Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of Haloperidol as follows:
Behavioral disorders
- Haloperidol, by controlling the excitation and activity of brain, can also contribute to provide relief in children with behavioral disorders, such as, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and anxiety states.
Tourette disorder
- Tourette disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder, characterized by involuntary, repetitive movements and vocalizations, which are referred to as tics.
- Haloperidol, by mechanisms not clearly defined, controls these tics and helps with relief in individuals with history of Tourette disorder.
Control of vomiting
- Inhibition of dopamine activity in the brain reportedly contributes significantly to control of vomiting.
- This action of haloperidol helps with control/preventing vomiting in individuals undergoing chemotherapy.
- Haloperidol can also be used to relieve uncontrollable hiccups.
