Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic uses of imodium as follows:
- Imodium helps with reducing the activity of bowel during hyper motility states.
- Imodium can help with reducing the activity of bowels during episodes of acute diarrhea, secondary to any food or medication intake.
- Individuals with history of crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can present with diarrhea, during episodes of active bowel inflammation. Imodium can help reducing the bowel activity during episodes of active inflammatory bowel disease.
- Individuals receiving chemotherapy can present with diarrhea, as a side-effect to the chemo. Imodium, by reducing the bowel activity, can help with chemo induced diarrhea.
- Individuals with ileostomy lose heavy amounts of fluid and electrolytes in the stool and present with high volume of stool content, as the stoma is located high up along the transit of intestinal contents. Imodium use in patients with ileostomy can increase the absorption of fluid and electrolytes from the intestinal contents, reduces the loss of fluid and electrolytes and thereby, helps reducing the volume of stool.
