Patient/caregiver was educated on therapeutic uses of metaxalone as follows:

Metaxalone is used for relieving the muscle pain and spasms caused by various musculoskeletal disorders.

Cerebral palsy

• Individuals with cerebral palsy present with abnormal muscle tone and rigidity contributing to the muscle spasms.
• This rigidity and spasms can lead to pain and discomfort. Metaxalone by relieving the spasms, help with easing the discomfort and pain.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

• ALS is a condition in which there is progressive degeneration of the motor nerves controlling the activity of the various muscles.
• Motor nerves originate in the brain and travelling through the spinal cord, reach the various muscles throughout the body, thus conducting the impulse to the muscles.
• Progressive degeneration of the motor nerves contributes to compromised impulse conduction.
• This block in impulse conduction can result in rigidity and spasms, contributing to the pain and discomfort.
• Metaxalone by relieving the rigidity, helps with easing the discomfort and pain of spasms.
