Patient was educated on Tapentadol and its mechanism of action as follows:

  1. Tapentadol is a synthetic opioid pain medication, that is administered by oral route.
  2. Tapentadol is used to relieve moderate to severe pain.
  3. Tapentadol binds with the opioid receptors in the brain and block the release of excitatory neurotransmitters involved with pain production. Thus, Tapentadol primarily modifies the pain signaling in the brain.
  4. This action of Tapentadol alters the perception of pain by the patient.
  5. Tapentadol is also used for management of nerve pain in individuals with peripheral neuropathy.
