Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Flagyl as follows:
- Discuss with your doctor regarding any previous allergic responses you experienced with antibiotics belonging to the Nitroimidazole group, such as, Tinidazole and Ornidazole.
- Patients with history of antibiotic associated diarrhea must be cautious about using Flagyl. Discuss with your doctor regarding your history of the same. Report to your doctor regarding any persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramping, and blood or mucus in the stool. These findings could occur even weeks after discontinuation of Flagyl and must be reported.
- Flagyl intake with alcohol can result in intense dizziness and confusion along with extreme nausea and vomiting with flushing of skin. Avoid taking Flagyl with alcohol. One should stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until they are used to the side effects caused by Flagyl.
- Individuals with history of seizures and hallucinations can present with exacerbation of these symptoms with Flagyl. Flagyl should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with seizure history.
