Patient was educated on contraindications for using Flagyl as follows:
- Flagyl should be used with extreme caution in individuals taking blood thinners like Warfarin. Flagyl enhances the therapeutic effects of Warfarin and increases the thinning, making the individual prone for bleeding diathesis and internal hemorrhages.
- Flagyl is significantly eliminated in urine. Individuals with compromised renal functions cannot eliminate Flagyl and thereby, result in increased blood levels of the drug for longer duration, leading to toxicity. Flagyl should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
- Individuals with history of seizures and hallucinations can present with exacerbation of these symptoms with Flagyl. Flagyl should be avoided or used with extreme caution in individuals with seizure history.
- Flagyl intake can increase the risk for skin rash and photosensitivity. Individuals with history of photosensitivity and taking Flagyl should avoid natural and bright lights or use sunscreens, to prevent any photosensitive responses from developing.
