Patient was educated on Flagyl and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Flagyl is an antibiotic that belongs to the Nitroimidazole class. It fights bacteria in your body.
- Flagyl inhibits the bacterial nucleic acid synthesis and thus, damages the DNA of bacterial cells.
- Flagyl acts typically against anaerobic bacteria, such as, Clostridium and Helicobacter. Anaerobic bacteria survive in the absence of oxygen and presence of oxygen around is detrimental to the survival of such bacteria.
- Flagyl is also active against some parasitic infections, such as, amoebiasis and trichomonas vaginal infections.
