Patient was educated on coronary artery disease also known as CAD as follows:
- CAD is a condition involving the arteries that supply oxygenated blood to heart muscle.
- This is one of the most common conditions relating to the heart.
- The inner surface or endothelium of the coronary arteries will be damaged, secondary to chronic inflammation and stress of the blood flow.
- This damage will set the ground for built up of cholesterol on the endothelium. This is called plaque.
- Deposition of plaque on the inner walls of coronary arteries will narrow the artery lumen and the artery loses the flexibility and turns hard. This condition is called atherosclerosis.
- The decrease in the lumen size and hardening of the coronary arteries will lead to progressive reduction in the blood flow through the vessels.
- Consequently, heart muscle will suffer from lack of enough oxygen supply, which can lead to several acute and progressively chronic conditions of the heart that can endanger the life of the patient.
