Patient was educated on measures to prevent complications due to atrial fibrillation as follows:
- Discuss with all your doctors regarding your arrhythmic history. Discuss all prescription and supplement medications along with any new medications being started, to validate the safety of these medications with the arrhythmia.
- Stress and anxiety are important contributors towards rhythm disturbances of the heart. Managing stress and anxiety by observing compliance with relaxation techniques, such as, deep breathing, biofeedback, and yoga can prevent abnormal stimulation of cardiac tissues and thus, prevent development of atrial fibrillation.
- Avoid active and secondhand smoking. Excessive nicotine results in abnormal stimulation of the cardiac tissues, thus resulting in complicated atrial fibrillation.
- Observe compliance with doctor appointments and intake of all the prescription medications.
- Diabetic patients should observe compliance with everyday blood sugar readings, dietary limitations, and medication intake to keep blood sugars and diabetes in good control.
