Patient/caregiver was educated on the precautions to be observed while taking Tamsulosin as follows:

  1. As Tamsulosin intake can lead to hypotensive episodes, individuals can increasingly present with episodes of dizziness, confusion, falls and accidents. The risk for hypotension could be even more, if you are also taking any other antihypertensive medications. Try spacing Tamsulosin out from other antihypertensive medications to avoid episodes of dizziness, falls, and accidents. Sudden changes in position can significantly increase the episodes of dizziness and confusion. Slow change of position and compliance with required fluid intake is recommended to prevent such episodes. Also, avoid activities such as driving, which need you to be more attentive, until you are used to the level of dizziness and hypotension Tamsulosin might cause. Observe compliance with daily blood pressure readings and log maintenance for an easy follow-up and possible changes in plan of care.
  2. Take Tamsulosin dose at the same time, every day, to avoid forgetting the intake of medication.
  3. Patients can sometimes present with nausea, vomiting, and abnormal taste secondary to Tamsulosin intake. Taking the Tamsulosin dose with some food or snack can counter these unpleasant gastrointestinal side-effects.
  4. Maintain strict compliance with intake of the medication as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication.
  5. Do not change the dose on this medication without consulting your doctor.
