Patient/caregiver was educated on the precautions to be observed while taking isosorbide dinitrate as follows:
- Maintain strict compliance with intake of the medication as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication.
- Do not change the dose on this medication without consulting your doctor. Overdosing or underdosing can have serious consequences, such as, dangerously low blood pressure, rapid heart rate, and precipitation of angina.
- Do not discontinue taking isosorbide dinitrate without consulting your doctor. Discontinuing the medication abruptly, without physician recommendation, can precipitate episodes of chest pain and angina.
- A lot of other nonprescription products and prescription medications can also influence the activity of isosorbide dinitrate in the body. So, be sure to mention your physician and pharmacist regarding your history with isosorbide dinitrate and check with them regarding safety, in the event you are being started on any new medications.
