Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking Trazodone as follows:

  1. Take trazodone after having a meal or a snack, to avoid having an unpleasant nausea and vomiting sensation with the medication.
  2. Do not drink alcohol while taking trazodone. This can result in increased confusion and dizziness, thus contributing to falls and accidents. One should stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until they are used to the side effects caused by trazodone.
  3. Try changing the positions very slowly, until you are used to the side-effects of the medication. Sudden change of positions can make the confusion and dizzy episodes even worse and precipitate accidents and falls.
  4. Watch closely for development of any allergic reactions to trazodone, such as, skin rashes, hives, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Some patients can present with symptoms of angioneurotic edema, such as, difficulty breathing, swelling of face, lips, throat, and tongue, with consequent difficulty breathing. Seek emergency medical help for such findings, especially with difficulty breathing, for any appropriate measures to be considered.
