Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while taking losartan as follows:

  1. Drink 2.5 liters to 3 liters of fluid every day, as Captopril tends to cause loss of fluid volume and consequently, dehydration. If fluid is restricted in an individual for reasons, such as, congestive heart failure or dialysis dependent status, compliance to the recommendation made is very important.
  2. Be aware of signs and symptoms of hypotension, to avoid any episodes of loss of consciousness and accidental falls. One should stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until they are used to the side effects caused by losartan.
  3. Keep a watch on the volume of urine output, at least for the initial one month or two of starting on this medication and periodically later on. Void into a urinal and keeping a log of the volume and the color of the urine can significantly help. Report to your physician, in case any findings of gross diminishing in urine volume and consistently concentrated dark urine have been noted. Notify your doctor, if you also experience any other symptoms of compromised renal function, such as, fluid retention, edema, and abnormal weight gain.
