Patient was educated on management measures for prevention of angina as follows:

Physical exercise

  • Know your safety levels for exercise. Having physical activity and exercising regularly within permissive levels and as endurance permits, can help prevent further episodes of angina.
  • Do not overdo on physical exercise.

Avoid high altitudes

  • At high altitudes, the atmospheric pressure will be lower than normal and consequently, oxygen will be poorly dissolved and is difficult to be transported in blood, bound to hemoglobin.
  • This results in reduced oxygen supply to all body tissues, including the cardiac muscle and can precipitate episodes of angina.
  • Avoid living or visiting places at high altitude.

Avoid extreme temperatures

  • Hot environmental conditions can cause loss of fluid volume and dehydration, secondary to increased sweating, contribute towards reduced blood supply to the heart, and lead to angina.
  • Cold environmental temperatures can result in generalized constriction or collapse of blood vessels, including coronary blood vessels, in an attempt to conserve body heat and compromise blood supply to the heart, thus leading to angina.
  • So, avoid both extremes of temperatures, to prevent episodes of angina from happening.
