Patient was educated on angina as follows:
- Cardiac muscle is extremely dependent on oxygen.
- Any compromise with blood flow to the cardiac muscle, secondary to any of the various risk factors, can compromise the oxygen delivery.
- Compromised blood flow and oxygen delivery to the cardiac muscle can result in chest pain or discomfort, manifested as a squeezing sensation or tightness in the chest, which is referred to as angina.
- Angina can be a recurring condition, as and when the conditions of disproportionate demand and oxygen supply to cardiac muscle arise.
- This chest discomfort can often resemble episodes of GERD/indigestion and could be ignored. Any episodes of chest discomfort should be reported and evaluated, to rule out an angina.
- Angina can be classified into stable, unstable, and variant varieties, based on the cause, intensity, and duration the chest pain lasts.
