Patient was educated on post op care after coronary artery bypass grafting as follows:
- Clarify with your surgeon regarding any changes with medication doses or new medications that you are placed on, before you get discharged from the hospital.
- Arrange for caregiver availability at your house around the clock, for at least 2 weeks after the surgery.
- Maintain compliance with postop visits with your surgeon and other doctors on the team.
- Be aware of signs and symptoms of infection at the site of surgery. Report any bleeding from the surgical incision appropriately to the surgeon.
- Blood flow can be sluggish in the postop phase, especially in patients with prolonged hospitalization or bedbound status. This can result in clot formation. Be aware of signs and symptoms of deep vein thrombosis to report them accordingly.
- Plan your daily activities based on your endurance.
- Maintain compliance with your assistive devices, such as, cane, walker, and wheelchair to avoid accidents and falls.
- Watch closely for improvement in the symptoms of chest pain and shortness of breath that you had before surgery.
- Arrange for therapy services immediately after discharge, to help with improving motor strength and endurance.
