Patient was educated on the side effects of potassium-sparing diuretics use as follows:

  1. Symptoms of hypotension and dehydration, such as dry mouth, feeling dizzy and lightheaded with rapid heart rate can occur secondary to loss of fluid volume.
  2. Nausea and vomiting, extreme lethargy, muscle cramps, weakness, and fatigue secondary to increased sodium loss from the body.
  3. Heart palpitations, cardiac arrhythmias, muscle weakness, and fatigue secondary to increase in potassium levels in the body.
  4. Spironolactone can result in an abnormal response of growth of breast tissue in males, resulting in gynecomastia.
