Patient was educated on the side effects of potassium-sparing diuretics use as follows:
- Symptoms of hypotension and dehydration, such as dry mouth, feeling dizzy and lightheaded with rapid heart rate can occur secondary to loss of fluid volume.
- Nausea and vomiting, extreme lethargy, muscle cramps, weakness, and fatigue secondary to increased sodium loss from the body.
- Heart palpitations, cardiac arrhythmias, muscle weakness, and fatigue secondary to increase in potassium levels in the body.
- Spironolactone can result in an abnormal response of growth of breast tissue in males, resulting in gynecomastia.
