Patient was educated on precautions to be exercised while using meglitinides as follows:

  1. Meglitinides are quick and short to act. So, they are taken right before eating or along with the meal. Since they are quick to act, they are helpful in individuals with irregular eating times.
  2. This medication is to be taken no earlier than 30 minutes before the meal. Do not skip your meals.
  3. Meglitinides carry the risk of inducing seizures in some individuals. This is a rare and serious side effect on meglitinides intake. Report to your physician immediately at the notice of any such findings.
  4. Be aware of signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia, such as, dizziness, lightheadedness, sweating, and hunger, to avoid any episodes of altered levels of consciousness and accidental falls. One should stay away from activities, such as, driving and operating heavy machinery, until they are used to the side effects caused by meglitinides.
  5. Maintain compliance with your dietary recommendations, as ordered.
