Patient was educated on meglitinides and their mechanism of action as follows:

  1. Meglitinides are oral antidiabetic drugs, used especially in patients with type-2 diabetes.
  2. These drugs act by stimulating release of more insulin for the Beta-cells of islets of pancreas.
  3. So, these drugs are mostly used in individuals with reduced insulin secretion and in individuals who are resistant to the amount of insulin they are currently producing.
  4. Insulin secretion will lead to lowering of blood glucose concentrations.
  5. Continued lowering of blood glucose concentrations also result in lowering of hemoglobin A1c, which is an indicator of blood glucose control over the past 2 to 3 months.
