Patient was educated on contraindication for using emollient laxatives as follows:
- Intestinal Strictures
- The emollient laxatives can occasionally cause intestinal blocks in individuals with intestinal strictures or adhesions from previous surgeries.
- So, these laxatives for the most part are contraindicated in such individuals.
- Abdominal pain and cramping
- These laxatives usually are contraindicated in individuals with undiagnosed abdominal pain and cramping, as these complaints can deteriorate further with laxative use.
- Rectal bleed
- Emollient laxatives are contraindicated in individuals with rectal bleed, as these individuals are at risk for exacerbation of this complaint with laxative use.
