Patient was educated on common side effects of taking ACE inhibitors as below:
- Common side effects of taking ACE inhibitors can include
- Nausea and vomiting.
- Skin rash.
- Dry persistent cough, which is a more common finding.
- More serious side effects of taking ACE inhibitors can include
- Symptoms of hypotension and dehydration, such as feeling dizzy and lightheaded with rapid heart rate.
- Nausea and vomiting, extreme lethargy, muscle cramps, weakness, and fatigue secondary to increased sodium loss from the body.
- Weak pulse and slow heart rate, secondary to elevated potassium levels in the body.
- Grossly elevated potassium levels can sometimes result in irregular heart rhythms, leading to episodes of dizziness, abnormally fast heart rate, palpitations, shortness of breath with poor endurance, and chest pain.
- Compromise in the renal function can occur secondary to use of ACE inhibitor. Report to your physician, in case any gross diminishing in urine volume has been noted.
