Patient and caregiver were instructed on risk factors contributing to dementia development as follows:

  • Advanced age
  • Personal habits, such as smoking and alcohol consumption
  • Family history of dementia
  • Lifestyle factors, such as physical inactivity, poor social support, and social isolation
  • Sensory deficits, such as poor hearing ability
  • History of chronic poorly managed medical conditions, such as stroke, HTN, CHF, and diabetes
  • History of psychosocial issues, such as depression and psychosis
  • History of traumatic brain injury
  • Vitamin D deficiency
  • Chronic poor nutritional states
