Patient was educated on Vancomycin and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Vancomycin is an antibiotic that can be given orally and parenterally.
- Vancomycin is usually prescribed for complicated bloodstream infections, infections of the bones and joints.
- Vancomycin works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.
- Inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis will kill the bacteria and inhibit further growth of bacteria.
- Vancomycin is an antibacterial agent and does not act against any viral infections.
- Vancomycin is also the drug of choice for antibiotic induced diarrhea and Clostridium. difficile diarrhea.
