Patient was educated on how to take Repaglinide as follows:
- Repaglinide is quick and short to act. So, it is taken right before eating or along with the meal. Since it is quick to act, Repaglinide is helpful in individuals with irregular eating times.
- This medication is to be taken no earlier than 30 minutes before the meal. Noncompliance with this instruction can result in serious hypoglycemic episodes.
- Do not skip your meals. Since this drug acts very fast, forget not to eat immediately after you take the medication.
- Maintain compliance with your dietary recommendations, as ordered.
- Maintain compliance with any exercise scheduled prescribed by your doctor. Try not to overdo on your exercise.
- Take weight reading at least twice a week and maintain a log of every reading for comparative feedback. Maintain an ideal weight for your height.
- Maintain strict compliance with intake of Repaglinide as ordered, with regards to dosage and frequency, to derive the benefit of the medication.
- Do not change the dose on Repaglinide without consulting your doctor.
- Take a blood sugar reading always before you take dose of Repaglinide. Maintain a log of every day blood sugar readings for comparative feedback, as to how well the medication is helping to control the blood sugars.
- If the blood sugar is too low, despite eating regularly and without skipping a meal, you can defer taking Repaglinide for that dose and notify your doctor regarding the same.
- Keeping a track of frequency of episodes of low blood sugars, despite eating regularly, can help your physician revise your dose on Repaglinide.
- Also, notify your doctor, if the blood sugar continues to be high, despite taking Repaglinide as recommended, so that, your medication dose could be revised.
