Patient was educated on contraindications for taking Qvar as follows:

  1. Hypertension
  • Qvar inhalations should be used cautiously in hypertensive patient, as they can result in retention of sodium and water, which contributes towards elevated blood pressures.
  • Maintain a log of everyday blood pressure readings and report any gross elevations in the readings to your physician.
  1. Opportunistic infection
  • Qvar inhalations should be used cautiously in individuals with history of opportunistic infections, as it can result in immunosuppression and flaring up of infections, such as, candida, secondary bacterial and viral infections.
  • Discuss with your doctor regarding your history of opportunistic infections, if any, and safety with the use of Qvar.
  • Carefully watch for any throat irritation, undiagnosed productive cough, fever, stomach upset, white patches on the tongue and in the oral cavity, while using Qvar. Report any of such findings to your physician.
  • Compliance with gargling and rinsing the mouth with water, after every dose of Qvar inhalation and spitting out this water after rinsing, is very important to prevent exacerbation of these opportunistic infections.
