Patient was educated on contraindications for using PrandiMet as follows:
- PrandiMet is mainly metabolized in the liver and excreted in bile and urine. Part of PrandiMet is excreted unchanged in the urine. In individuals with liver function disorders, biliary disease, and compromised renal function, the metabolism and excretion of this drug can suffer. This can lead to increased blood levels of the medication for longer periods of time, resulting in toxicity and severe side effects. So, PrandiMet should be used with caution in individuals with hepatic dysfunction, biliary disease and compromised renal function.
- PrandiMet is contraindicated in individuals with history of allergy to Metformin and Repaglinide.
- PrandiMet is contraindicated in individuals with history of seizures, as it carries risk of inducing seizures.
- Avoid using PrandiMet along with alcohol. This can increase the risk of stomach upset with nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
- Avoid using PrandiMet in patients with history of metabolic acidosis with symptoms like rapid breath and heart rate, confusion, and stomach upset with nausea and vomiting.
