Patient/caregiver was instructed on how to put the sling back on the arm as follows:

  1. Individuals with shoulder pain could be recommended using a sling, as it helps to reduce the weight on the shoulder, relieve the pull the shoulder has from the weight of limb, and support the arm better.
  2. The sling has a waist band that goes around the trunk, a neck band that goes on to the back and around the neck, and an arm piece that surrounds and supports the arm.
  3. Lean forward on to a table or countertop and rest your arm on the surface of the countertop. This position allows better support and prevents any stress on the arm. You can put the armpiece on first and apply the Velcro to support it.
  4. Get the neck band on, by sliding it over the head. Then, get the waist band on by reaching around your back to the waist band with your good arm. Individuals could experience some limitation reaching out to the waist band around their back.
  5. Such individuals can place the waist band stably on the countertop or worktable in front of them, turn their back to the countertop, reach out to the waist band easy, and apply it.
  6. The sling can now be adjusted to position the arm properly. Now adjust the neck band to pull the arm up to comfortable height. The guideline rule is to have the hand at the same height of the elbow.
