Patient/caregiver was instructed regarding side-effects to expect after receiving flu shot as follows:
- Administration of flu shot can result in mild side-effects such as,
- Redness with soreness, pain, and swelling at the site of injection
- Muscle aches
- Headache
- Mild fever with chills
- Nausea & vomiting
- Exhaustion & tiredness
- Loss of appetite
- Dizziness & confusion, which can contribute to fall risk
- Individuals with history of allergy to egg protein can be at increased risk to present with these side-effects and symptoms of allergic response, as most of the flu vaccines contain small amounts of egg protein.
- Most of these side-effects after receiving flu shot are short-lived and resolve in a day or two. Report to your physician if these side-effects are severe and/or continue beyond 2 days.
