Patient/caregiver was instructed regarding flu vaccine as follows:
- Flu vaccines are given to protect against influenza group of viruses.
- Influenza viruses rapidly mutate and change. The influenza viruses responsible for flu this season could be different from the viruses rampant in the previous season.
- As newer strains of influenza viruses emerge every year, newer versions of the vaccines are manufactured too to control the spread of influenza for that current season.
- Also, as the viruses and vaccines are different every year, flu vaccines must be taken every year to control the spread of virus, rampant in that current season.
- Flu vaccines are recommended once every year for everyone 6 months and older.
- Flu vaccines contribute to development of immune response by generating antibodies in the recipient. These antibodies generated protect against infection with the influenza viruses in outbreak for that season.
