Patient was educated on the side effects of using Janumet as follows:
- Fluid retention
- Though not common, Janumet can sometimes result in fluid retention and patients can present with edema, weight gain, trouble breathing, shortness of breath, and fatigue.
- Acute pancreatitis
- A rare, but serious side effect of using Janumet is acute pancreatitis with a severe upper abdominal pain, radiating to the back, along with nausea and vomiting.
- Hypoglycemia:
- Janumet can increase the action of incretins, contributing to increase in insulin secretion, thereby reducing the blood sugars. Janumet can sometimes result in episodes of serious hypoglycemia.
