Patient/caregiver was educated that the signs and symptoms of head injury can vary depending on the severity of the injury suffered.
Also, some symptoms can appear during immediate 24 – 48 hours after injury and some symptoms can also appear in a few weeks after injury. The symptoms can progressively improve or worsen based on the impact of injury.
Moderate to severe head injury can result in the following signs & symptoms:
- Bruising and swelling: The site of injury can be bruised & inflamed with swelling and the individual can present with a bump on the head.
- Pain: Moderate to severe head injury can result in severe inflammation at the site of injury and result in intense pain.
- Fracture of skull: Moderate to severe head injury can result in fracture of the skull bones, resulting in an open head injury.
- Seizures: Brain damage from the injury can increase the risk for seizure development. Increased frequency of seizures can worsen the brain damage suffered.
