Patient was educated on Gentamicin and its mechanism of action as follows:

  1. Gentamicin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the class of Aminoglycoside antibiotics.
  2. This antibiotic is active against several bacterial infections.
  3. Gentamicin does not act against any viral infections.
  4. Gentamicin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in a wide variety of bacteria.
  5. These proteins are needed for bacterial division and growth.
  6. Inhibition of protein synthesis by Gentamicin leads to killing of the bacteria, preventing their division and growth and thus, controls the infection.
