Patient/caregiver was educated on choosing a proper hand sanitizer for COVID-19 as follows:

  1. Read through the label on the hand sanitizer bottle or container before you buy it.
  2. CDC recommends choosing only those hand sanitizers with at least 60% of alcohol content in them. Hand sanitizers with alcohol content less than 60% are not as effective against the infecting organisms.
  3. Also, read through the type of alcohol in the hand sanitizer, as some alcohols can be potentially dangerous.
  4. Use only those hand sanitizers that display the alcohol in them as ethanol/ethyl alcohol or 2-propanol or isopropanol.
  5. Avoid using hand sanitizers with labels reading “alcohol-free” or displaying the alcohol in them as methanol/wood alcohol or 1-propanol, as they can be harmful.
