Patient/caregiver was educated on cleaning and disinfecting clothing and laundry items for COVID-19 as follows:
- Regularly clean and disinfect the laundry basket. Cleaning is done by wiping the basket using a clean towel moistened with soap and water or a hand sanitizer with at least 60% of alcohol in it.
- Disinfection can be done using a clean towel moistened with most commonly marketed EPA registered household disinfectants, alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol, or a homemade diluted bleach solution with one-third cup of bleach in one gallon of clean tap water. While disinfecting the basket, be sure to allow the disinfecting agent to remain in contact with the basket surface for the required amount of time, as directed, which ensures the expected action of the disinfecting agent.
- Remove the gloves & safely discard them after each cleaning & disinfection. Place all used gloves and other contaminated items in a trash bag that can be securely tied or zipped, before disposing them off along with other household waste.
- After the task is done, do not forget to wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with soap & hot water or a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol in it.
