Patient/caregiver was educated on measures to follow while in isolation for COVID-19 as follows:

  1. Stay home completely, other than for your doctor appointments. Isolation period will continue for 10 days after onset of symptoms and until the symptoms are relieved. In infected individuals presenting with fever, isolation will continue at least for 24 hours after fever subsides, without the use of medications for fever control.
  2. Virus competent enough to replicate has been recovered in immunocompromised individuals even beyond 10 days after onset of symptoms. So, isolation period in these individuals can be a little longer, for about 15 days after onset of symptoms.
  3. Avoid all contact with other household members and pets in the house. Discourage any friends and family members coming to visit you.
  4. Individuals practicing isolation should restrict themselves to a defined area/room in the house, use an assigned restroom if possible, and strictly discourage other household members to share these assigned areas in the house. If an infected individual has assigned room and restrooms, caregivers should consider reducing the cleaning frequency to as needed. This can contribute to avoiding/reducing contact with the infected individual and soiled clothing & surfaces, which can help reduce transmission of the virus to the household members. Shared restrooms must be cleaned and disinfected after each use by the infected person.
