Patient/caregiver was educated on isolation vs quarantine for COVID-19 as follows:

  1. Isolation keeps an individual infected with the virus (tested positive) away from others. Individuals tested positive for COVID-19, either symptomatic or asymptomatic, should practice isolation and separate from others.
  2. Quarantine keeps an individual who has contacted someone with the disease and could have been exposed to the risk of COVID-19 away from others. Quarantine helps prevent spread of disease from an individual who has contacted someone with the disease and is tested for the virus, with lab results pending. The individual could have been exposed to the risk of infection with COVID-19 but is yet asymptomatic. As the status of infection is not known, quarantining the individual from others can help prevent spread of potential infection to others.
  3. Individuals practicing isolation or quarantine should restrict themselves to a defined area in the house, use an assigned restroom if possible, and strictly discourage other household members to share these assigned areas in the house. They should follow the rules of isolation or quarantine until they are completely asymptomatic, test negative for replication competent virus, and are safe to be around others.
