Signs and symptoms in individuals with UTI can vary slightly depending on the site of infection along the urinary system, from urethra to kidneys.
- Hematuria: The irritation and damage to the lining of urinary system from infection can lead to episodes of bleeding, which can color the urine and show on voiding.
- Pelvic pressure and discomfort: UTI involving the urinary bladder can result in pelvic pressure and lower abdominal discomfort. Irritation of the bladder can lead to sudden involuntary contractions of the bladder, resulting in increased urge and episodes of urinary incontinence.
- Fever, chills, and flank pain: Involvement of the kidneys with UTI usually presents with high fever, chills, and flank pain.
