Patient was educated on Doxycycline and its mechanism of action as follows:
- Doxycycline is an antibiotic belonging to the family of Tetracyclines.
- This antibiotic is active against several bacteria causing urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, acne, and many others.
- Doxycycline does not act against any viral infections.
- Doxycycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis in a wide variety of bacteria.
- These proteins are needed for bacterial division and growth.
- Inhibition of their synthesis by Doxycycline leads to killing of the bacteria, preventing their division and growth and thus, controls the infection.
