Patient was educated on contraindications for using Docusate as follows:

  1. Undiagnosed abdominal pain
  • Docusate usually is contraindicated in individuals with undiagnosed abdominal pain and cramping, as these complaints can deteriorate further with use of Docusate.
  1. Rectal bleed
  • Docusate is contraindicated in individuals with history of rectal bleed, as these individuals are at risk for exacerbation of this complaint with use of Docusate.
  1. Intestinal strictures
  • Docusate can occasionally cause intestinal blocks in individuals with intestinal strictures or adhesions from previous surgeries.
  • So, Docusate for the most part is contraindicated in such individuals.
  • Discuss with your physician regarding history of intestinal strictures or adhesions from previous abdominal surgeries, if any and your safety with Docusate.
