Patient was educated on contraindications for using Diclofenac Sodium as follows:
- Diclofenac Sodium has the potential to compromise coronary circulation and results in chest pain and myocardial infarction. So, Diclofenac Sodium must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of myocardial infarction. Diclofenac Sodium must also be avoided during immediate post-surgical period, in individuals who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).
- Diclofenac Sodium is mainly metabolized by the liver and Diclofenac Sodium intake can lead to hepatic injury. Individuals with history of compromised liver function cannot metabolize Diclofenac Sodium and this can lead to increased blood levels of Diclofenac Sodium for longer duration, leading to toxicity. Diclofenac Sodium should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
- Diclofenac Sodium is significantly excreted in the bile and urine. Individuals with biliary obstructions and compromised renal functions tend to retain the drug in the circulation longer, thus resulting in toxicity. Diclofenac Sodium should be avoided or used with extreme caution in such individuals.
- Diclofenac Sodium must be avoided or used cautiously in individuals with history of exacerbation of SOB with episodes of asthma and growth of nasal polyps with other NSAIDs
