Patient/caregiver was instructed upon therapeutic use of paroxetine as follows:
Major depression
- Paroxetine increases the serotonin concentration and enhancing the actions of serotonin at the junction between nerve cells.
- This helps with contributing to relief of anxiety, control symptoms of depression, and promote feelings of well-being, contentment, and happiness.
Bipolar disorder
- Paroxetine can be used along with antipsychotics, such as, olanzapine, for management of depressive symptoms in individuals with history of bipolar disorder.
Anxiety
- Promotion of serotonin actions in nervous system with paroxetine contributes to improved relaxation, relief of anxiety, and promotion of feelings of contentment and happiness.
- So, paroxetine can be used for mood enhancement and management of mild agitation and anxiety.
