Patient was educated on types of oxygen supplementation as follows:
- Oxygen supplementation involves providing additional oxygen to the body tissues.
- Oxygen supplementation is mainly performed by the following 3 methods
- Oxygen tank
- This is the most commonly used method and comparatively cost-effective.
- Oxygen is compressed in tanks for storage and is delivered at a set rate, through a nasal cannula or a facemask, as prescribed by the physician.
- The rate of delivery could be adjusted and could increase with the dyspneic status of the patient, as prescribed by the physician.
- Oxygen concentrator
- An oxygen concentrator collects air from the environment around, filters out other gases, such as nitrogen and carbon dioxide, and stores oxygen for use.
- This method is also used commonly, but the requirement of an electric supply for the concentrator to work limits the use of the concentrator.
- This method is more helpful for bedridden patients on oxygen requirements.
- Using liquid oxygen that turns into gas, after it gets dispensed from the container is an expensive method of oxygen supplementation.
